The Port of Nice and its boats
Since 1982

Our story

On the Port of Nice, at 7 quai des Deux Emmanuels, La Barque Bleue has served fish, mussels and seafood since 1982. A house that very nearly went under, and chose to hold firm. Here is its story.

A house from 1982

For more than forty years, La Barque Bleue has watched over the same waters. An address settled on the port, where people come for the catch of the day, the mussels and the seafood, almost with their feet in the water. A quiet institution, one of those that give a port its soul.

A comeback against the tide

When Christian took over the house, he inherited an address full of history. The timing, however, was cruel: a few months later, the pandemic closed the terraces. Reopening was a hard blow, the finances under strain, and the two years that followed a real crossing.

Many would have let go of the moorings. Christian held firm.

Back on course

Little by little, the house found its breath again. Business picked up, the regulars came back, new faces pushed open the door. The boat has righted its course. What remained was one wish: to make the address known again, beyond those who already love it.

A new breeze, without giving up its soul

That is the whole point of this new chapter: a Barque Bleue that is more refined, more pared-back, and still accessible. A seafood brasserie where you eat well, simply, facing the boats, without the bill stinging. New menu, refreshed identity, a story finally told: the house opens up, without losing any of what makes its soul.

« We're not reinventing anything. We cook simple, generous food from the sea, just like in 1982. What has changed is that, at last, we want to show it. »

Christian,
the soul of the house

A warm and larger-than-life character, Christian is the soul of La Barque Bleue. He is the one who writes the menu, welcomes the regulars and makes sure no one leaves on an empty stomach. Behind the gruff tenderness, an owner who gave everything to keep his house afloat, and who takes on this new chapter with the desire to share generous, no-fuss cooking from the sea.
